Mars Adventure Gear Unveils the Aeroblade: The World’s Slimmest Hardshell Rooftop Tent, Designed with EVs in Mind, Launches with Entry into Rivian Market
  • Mars Aeroblade: The world’s slimmest 4-season hardshell rooftop tent, measuring just 3.48” thick and weighing only 110 lbs—engineered for EVs, compatible with all vehicle types.

  • Now entering the Rivian market: Launching a new line of stealthy, aero-optimized roof racks for the R1S and R1T, designed to support electric off-roading and overlanding.

  • Built for the electric outdoors: Mars Adventure Gear continues its mission to create rugged, lightweight gear that balances utility, performance, and design—empowering the next generation of adventurers.

Fremont, California – April 15, 2025Mars Adventure Gear, the California-based startup redefining outdoor gear for the electric era, today announced the launch of the Mars Aeroblade—quite possibly the world’s slimmest 4-season hardshell rooftop tent. Aerodynamically engineered and crafted from premium materials, the Aeroblade weighs just 110 lbs—making it ideal for electric vehicles while still an excellent choice for any vehicle type.

Born out of necessity, Mars Adventure Gear began as a passion project in 2024 when a group of EV-driving outdoor enthusiasts and automotive engineers realized the gear they needed simply didn’t exist. Frustrated by bulky, wind-dragging accessories not built with electric vehicles in mind, they decided to create their own—balancing form, function, and performance without compromise.

“Electric overlanding and camping is growing fast, but the gear hasn’t kept up,” said Ivan Wang, co-founder of Mars Adventure Gear and a long-time EV owner. “I’ve driven Teslas for years and recently added a Rivian R1S to take my young kid on more road trips. But so many products out there weren’t designed for EVs, which led us to ask: how can we make overlanding smarter, sleeker, and more efficient for this new era of travel?”

The Mars Aeroblade is the answer. Featuring an ultra-slim, hingeless, and stealthy design, this rooftop tent measures just 3.48 inches thick—delivering exceptional aerodynamic performance by reducing drag, minimizing wind noise, and helping preserve EV range or fuel efficiency. The Mars team conducted extensive aerodynamic optimization to ensure the Aeroblade’s ultra-slim profile results in meaningful performance gains. As shown in the CFD simulation below, the Aeroblade reduces drag force by about 60% compared to traditional hardshell rooftop tents. For electric vehicles—where aerodynamic drag typically accounts for 30% to 50% of total energy consumption—this translates to significantly improved efficiency on the road. [1]

Despite its sleek profile, it comfortably sleeps two adults and is built for true four-season durability. The Aeroblade sets up and packs down in seconds and features breathable triple-layer fabric, CNC-machined aluminum hardware, and a clean, bolt-free aesthetic.

“The interior of the Aeroblade was thoughtfully designed. The included Velcro sticker set is a fun, playful touch for those who appreciate the little details,” said Nancy Zhu, co-founder of Mars Adventure Gear, who brought a female perspective to the product’s design process. “Unlike traditional rugged outdoor gear, we wanted to bring some personality and creativity into the often male-dominated outdoor industry. We’ve also developed a thermal-insulation liner that’s easy to install and perfect for colder weather.”

Mars first gained traction with the Tesla Cybertruck community, launching a successful lineup of roof racks, crossbars, and mounting systems tailored for the truck’s futuristic design. The brand quickly became a go-to for early adopters seeking gear that not only worked but looked like it belonged on a next-generation vehicle.

Building on that momentum, Mars Adventure Gear has now expanded into the Rivian market, offering stealthy, aero-optimized roof racks for the R1S and R1T platforms. Designed for off-roading, camping, and overlanding, these racks blend seamlessly with Rivian’s clean design language, underscoring a shared vision of enabling electric adventure without compromise.

As EV adoption continues to rise, Mars Adventure Gear sees a bright future in outdoor gear that works with both electric and traditional vehicles. The company plans to continue innovating and launching new products that push boundaries in design, functionality, and performance.
